Biological Illustrations
NORTH CAROLINA STATE UNIVERSITY
RALEIGH, NC
I had the privilege of completing a series of biological illustrations for display at the Biological Arts Fair held at the Marye Anne Fox Science Teaching Laboratory at N.C. State University. These illustrations are designed to convey scientific knowledge to the general public with precision and visual appeal. To achieve accuracy, I utilized both my school’s taxidermy collection and my personal taxidermy collection, conducting thorough research on each organism.
The illustrations were showcased in the labs for about one week in April 2015, during which the fair aimed to raise awareness about intersections of art and science. This event highlighted the potential of art to enhance scientific understanding. This project underscores my commitment to merging artistic skill with scientific inquiry, resulting in works that both educate and inspire.
My biological illustrations are created using traditional pen-and-ink techniques, where I hand-stipple to build texture and depth. Each piece includes hand-lined text to achieve scientific accuracy and visual clarity. The precision required for this process allows me to capture the intricacies of subjects with artistic flair. Even now, I continue to create these illustrations, blending my passion for science and art into meaningful works.
LOOKING FORWARD…
My passion for detail and accuracy drives me to explore new techniques and styles, ensuring that my work remains versatile and impactful. I am also committed to advancing my skills through formal education and plan to earn certifications in scientific illustration. This will not only enhance the quality of my work but also provide new opportunities to collaborate on projects that require this specialized knowledge.
Stay tuned for more diverse and refined illustrations as I embark on my journey of growth and professional development!
